An Art Deco privilege
Be sure to keep your eyes peeled as you drive along the coast road out beyond Brighton and you’ll be in for a treat when you cast your eyes on the stunningly restored Art Deco jewel - the Saltdean Lido.
Addtonic were excited and honoured to redesign the Lido logo and support logo suite, ahead of the landmark building’s historic reopening.
The only grade II listed coastal lido in the country was designed by architect RWH Jones and first opened in 1938. When approaching the logo it was important to reflect the building’s streamlined design which encapsulates Britain’s modernist and social aspirations of the time, but with a clean contemporary edge to appeal to a new generation.
The brief was not to just focus on the beloved pool, but to celebrate the restored building becoming a hub for the surrounding community, providing year-round attractions – including a restaurant, cafe, gym, shared work space area and even an annual dogs in the pool day!
Addtonic were also asked to brand the exciting new offering of Weddings at the Saltdean Lido. It was joyous to create a sub brand celebrating the opportunity for couples to plan a unique and memorable day in such a historical and charming setting.
Saltdean Lido CIC (a not for profit community interest company) has a 60 year lease for the site, and with support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Historic England, the local community, Brighton & Hove City Council and others has brought new life and a sustainable future to the previously neglected building.

Introducing ‘Deco’ at the Lido
Saltdean Lido recognises that food plays a crucial role in any successful venue and so has partnered with an experienced local chef, operating across a number of Brighton’s venues, to ensure all visitors will be able to enjoy good food from DECO.
Sitting happily underneath the Mother brand of the Saltdean Lido logo, Addtonic designed the Deco restaurant branding. It was important to have a strong synergy with the Lido branding, but for it to also stand on its own two feet at the same time.

Love is in the air
Set to be one of the most unique venues on the South Coast, with the stunning Art Deco Ballroom and beautiful terraces that overlook the 40m open air pool, the Saltdean Lido ticks all the boxes for a magical wedding.
Addtonic were excited to create a light and airy sub brand, with additional Art Deco flourishes, to set a romantic and joyful visual tone for those wanting a unique and memorable big day.

The Saltdean Lido committee asked the community what they wanted and the people said ‘a gym’, so they listened.
Addtonic reinterpretted the look of the Saltdean Lido logo, beefed up the font and created dumbbells out of the Lido icon. It was important to present a empowering yet friendly look to help set the scene for the welcoming environment.
